Night on the Galactic Railroad Seen: completely Last Updated: Dec 21, 2013 |
8.25 (good) | The theme of the movie, "what is true happiness", really makes one think about life and the experiences we encounter. The idea of using cats for the main characters, when other people are portrayed as humans, seemed a bit off.

8.25 (good) | This was a rather weird and "off the beaten path" kind of anime. It has a similar feel to FLCL.

8.25 (good) | For the most part, alchemy is presented as a limited-type of craft. It is very precise and much is still unknown. The idea of automail is interesting as an advancement on artificial limbs. Izumi Curtis is a rather amusing and tragic character.

8.00 (good) | Unique portrayal of the "Count of Monte Cristo" story. The patterns used on the characters feels flat at times (as they don't bend or move with clothes), but the colors and styles are engaging nonetheless. There are moments where you think... "Albert, why don't you see the truth in what is going on?" You really feel hope for the Count and that he may turn around in the end. In some ways, he does... he leaves assets to people and gives a few characters more time to speak than he otherwise would have. Recommend this series.

The first animated series was rather odd and had a very poor ending. Part of this was due to the fact it had been made
while the manga was still being written, which isn't typically a good idea.
The manga is excellently written and flows really well. The history of characters and events is explained. There is also a nice tie-up of things at the end.

NGE, End of Evangelion, Death and Rebirth of Evangelion, NGE: Angelic Days (manga) There is just so much to NGE universe and it is very unique in a lot of ways. Shinji always seemed like too much of a wuss in the movies and original series. Rei was cute, but rather unemotional. Though her depiction in Angelic Days is a refreshing twist to her character. Asuka is head strong, but overconfident. Her and Masato are the favs from the movies and original series. : )

8.00 (good) | This was a fun series to watch (despite the every once in a while annoying character, namely Botan or Koenma/Jr.). More back story and complimentary action with the demon world, Raizen, and the other two rules, Mukuro and Yomi, would have been nice.

8.00 (good) | Read the manga and watched the series of Basilisk. Prefer the manga over the series by far, though it was nice to see some aspects of the manga in full (such as fight scenes).

Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 Remember watching this and those suits were fantastic. Nene is too cute. : ) Would have loved to be their mechanic and have them try the mech suits on. ...also wondered why there were no guys using the suits. :/

8.00 (good) | This manga felt rather short for the story it told. All the major points are communicated well enough and the action is good.

8.00 (good) | A rather funny tale about how the demon king is beaten, he moves to Japan with his daughter, and they run a ramen shop. The story primarily focuses on the daughter and her stumbling through school/life.

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within Seen: completely Last Updated: Dec 21, 2013 |
8.00 (good) | The movie felt like such a departure from the Final Fantasy world I knew that if Final Fantasy wasn't in the title, then I wouldn't have associated it with the franchise. Despite this, the movie was thoroughly entertaining and pulled you into the story. It felt more human than the Final Fantasy games I had played.

7.75 (good) | A comedic martial arts story, which has elements of drama here and there. Fuu's quest for sunflowers keeps things moving forward and the side stories along the way help to develop each of the characters.

7.75 (good) | Watched this after having seen Dragon Ball Z (wanted to see the history of the characters, as opposed to hearing references once in a great while in the Z anime). This was much more fascinating and fun to watch. The characters, enemies, and dangers are on a more realistic level. Krillin is able to contribute to the team throughout the whole series. Seeing more of Korin and the Master Roshi was nice too (they actually fight and teach in this).

7.75 (good) | This just feels like a fun action/comedy manga that knows how to deliver. It combines a variety of fantasy elements without dwelling too much on what they all are. A certain level of basic knowledge is expected/assumed by the mangaka as you read. Really a worthwhile manga is you are looking for something to pick up. : )

7.75 (good) | Negima was a really good read. It was a little bit much with the final battles and such, but ah well. The ending was understandable, but sad. :( Really kept hoping he would have ended up with one of the other girls, but it is fated from the start. :/

7.75 (good) | Good action and approach to the characters/story. The overly busty females and over use of ecchi scenes gets exhausting.

7.75 (good) | This was one of the first anime I say as a child (before I even knew what anime was). A beautiful story about six heroes who man robotic lions and fight evil in the galaxy. The enemies vary, but are typically of one main organization and have a demon-like appearance.

7.50 (good) | Gasaraki feels like a more organic (and in some ways cultural/historical) piece than the ever popular Gundam series that were out around this time.

This Gundam series felt like it was trying to do too much and over extended itself. It should have been one season and
more condensed. Two seasons could have been told better and with more sharp character development. Side characters
seem to just fill holes in the anime as opposed to being more thoroughly developed (given there is 2 seasons).
Would have rather had a 2nd season of Gundam Wing =b

Visions of Escaflowne (the movie) A wonderful and imaginative movie to watch. From what I understand, it differs from the series in a few places. I have yet to watch the series, not sure if I ever will. Rather enjoyed the movie for what it had to offer. (must rewatch =b )

7.50 (good) | Appleseed seemed like such a different and thought inspiring film for the time it was made. The peaceful society with everything "ok" has been done before, but this movie made it feel so different, so unique (as if it had not been attempted before). It really is something when artists can approach a genre and type of movie that has been made before and make it in such a way that it feels completely unique.

7.50 (good) | This manga presents a unique look at how someone of a younger age can become incredibly rich. Due to the amount of money that the main character has, they are not accustomed to interacting with society and feel rather scared at doing so. Someone comes along to help them with this through a relative. It is a sweet and blossoming story as the two main characters start to understand each other more and learn things of each other.

7.50 (good) | This has a DBZ feel to it, but is so much better than that series. The characters feel more developed and the story arcs are more intriguing. The master roshi character is just as playful, but also appears more disciplined and respected. Interesting creative dynamics, such as Greed Island, playout and allow the characters and readers to explore this manga universe further. Hope more of this is made.

7.50 (good) | The story was ok, but not great. The main character's back story felt more of like a "oh, here you go" at the end and seemed rather contrived/silly.

7.50 (good) | The anime was enjoyable to watch when you need something to fill the time. Recommend reading the prequel manga, Shakugan no Shana: X Eternal Song, which is more engaging and has a better story.

7.50 (good) | This feels like a variation of the .hack// universe. It's entertaining, but doesn't feel entirely original. To be able to game via a neural interface-like helmet is quite a scary thought. There are more health implications than possible benefits from the gaming experience.
